Version 8.15.000.0000
Powergold now automatically handles all compatibility issues between different versions. In the past it was possible to mix different minor number versions of Powergold. However, it was not always proper to do so depending on the differences in the versions and the features used. So managing this was difficult for the user. Differing Powergold minor number versions are no longer compatible. This makes it easy for users to manage differing Powergold versions since incompatible versions can no longer be accidentally mixed. Appropriate prompts are presented to the user both when accessing an older version of data using a newer version of the program, and vice-versa.
Powergold now automatically stops a user from restoring a backup created from a newer version of Powergold. Restoring an older backup using a newer version is, of course, still allowed.
Powergold now automatically handles all compatibility issues between different Music Exchange, Format Exchange, and History Exchange files. It is no longer possible to import an exchange file from an incompatible version.
Since the first version of 8, Powergold has used the MAJOR.MINOR.BUILD.RELEASE method of versioning. The following describes this method taking into account changes made in the current version:
Major = This is a major update and a total database conversion is necessary. Once this conversion takes place it is not possible to operate a prior version on the updated data. The one-time database conversion could take some time to complete and should only be performed when no other users are accessing the database.
Minor = This update contains changes significant enough (program and/or database) that all users must upgrade to this version since different versions will
operate on the data in a different manner. Once this upgrade takes place it is not possible to operate a prior version on the updated data. Also, Music Exchange, Format Exchange, and History Exchange files from different minor versions are not compatible and cannot be imported.
Build = This update contains changes that do not operate differently on the database data in a manner significant enough to cause the mixing of this version and older or newer versions in the same MAJOR.MINOR family to be a problem. So all users do not necessarily have to upgrade (within the same MAJOR.MINOR family of course).
Release = This update contains changes that are small in scope or are of interest only to some users. Mixing of this version and older or newer versions in the same MAJOR.MINOR family is allowed and is not a problem. So all users do not necessarily have to upgrade (within the same MAJOR.MINOR family of course).
To summarize: Versions not in the same major.minor family are not compatible. Versions that are in the same major.minor family are compatible. The Music Library T (Title Search) feature has been completely redesigned. It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results.
The Music Library A (Artist Display Text Search) feature has been completely redesigned. It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results.
A new Music Library search feature has been added called "Select by Artist Separation List". The shortcut is Shift+A. It is similar to A searching but searches on the artist separation list instead of artist display text. It offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results. It also allows the user to specify whether to search primary or secondary artists, or both.
Fixed a bug in the new Music Library Custom Spin Report. If songs were included in the report that had no spins over the specified date range it would cause the spin counts to be inaccurate.
Fixed a bug in the new Music Library Custom Spin Report. If sending multiple folder instances of the same song to the report it would cause a duplicate error message to appear.
Created a new automated interface for the new Powergold / ENCO DAD - Streamline system. This new interface allows Powergold to easily and automatically share song data with ENCO DAD, share scheduling data with ENCO DAD, and reconcile from ENCO DAD from either pre-broadcast data or post-broadcast (as-aired) data.
Added a new traffic merge called Visual Traffic - Streamline. This is part of the new Streamline interface.
The traffic merge utility has been upgraded to support directive commands. Now if there is a directive command on the merge command in a schedule, that directive command will be used for every traffic item that replaces the merge command.
When the unschedule traffic option is used to "unmerge" traffic, if there is a directive command for merge command in the clock for that hour then that directive command will be used in the schedule for the merge command that replaces the "unmerged" traffic.
Added code to prevent a user from entering invalid characters (return characters and tab characters) into the text field of a clock note.
Added code to prevent a user from entering invalid characters (return characters and tab characters) into the text field of a quick note.
The format exchange has been upgraded so that is handles certain error conditions automatically.
The schedule reconcile feature now supports the reconciling of directive commands for those systems that can deliver that information.
The schedule reconcile feature now records the aired duration delivered in the as-aired data in the Powergold schedule Exact Duration field for all systems that deliver that information.
The Recent Data Folders list on the logon screen was limited to 100 paths. It has now been extended to support up to 500 paths.
The Scheduler T (Replace by Title) feature has been completely redesigned. It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results.
The Scheduler A (Replace by Artist Display Text) feature has been completely redesigned. It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results.
The Scheduler Shift+A (Replace by Artist Separation List) feature has been completely redesigned. It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results.
The Scheduler C (Replace by Composer) feature has been completely redesigned. It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results.
The H History screen in the scheduler has been updated so that when on the Artist Sep tab the combo box that lets the user select what artists to include is less confusing. Also, it now indicates primary and secondary artists and defaults to having a primary artist selected.
Fixed a bug with schedule snapshots. If you typed in an invalid save path for the snapshot file it would result in an error message.
Fixed a bug in the schedule snapshot feature when encountering a command that has a return character in its text.
Schedule snapshots now record the source database (the database that created the snapshot) in the snapshot file.
Schedule snapshots now remember the last path used (per user) to create a snapshot and that path is presented to the user by default.
A new repair code has been added to the repair utility.
The Advanced Repair option has been upgraded to include more automated repair procedures.
A shortcut has been added for creating a schedule snapshot. It is Ctrl+S.
A shortcut has been added for importing a schedule snapshot. It is Ctrl+I.
A new "Edit Today" feature has been added to the scheduler to allow the user to quickly load today's date in the scheduler if it exists. The shortcut is Ctrl+T.
In the scheduler, when a user tries to use a "go to" feature to go to a specific hour a message appears if that hour does not exist in that schedule. This message has been reworded to be less confusing.
The VCS dira! "Get changed takes" option has been renamed "Get new/changed takes".
In prior versions, when adding a position to a clock it always used a "+" as the default directive command. Now you can set the default directive command to any valid value needed. By default, it is blank.
The New Song Wizard was not sorting properties in alpha order. This has been fixed.
The Property Select screen was not sorting properties in alpha order. This screen was used when adding a property in the New Song Wizard as well as other areas in Powergold. This has been fixed.
A new button has been added to the Scheduler interface called "Edit Clock". It is located next to the "Edit Policy Grid" button under the violations box. When pressed, this button will bring up the clock editor with the correct clock for the given hour/date (according to the active clock grid).
The Scheduler replace/insert screen command and note columns have been resized so they are large enough to accommodate the command and note names without having to constantly resize them.
2 new options have been added to the Music Log Designer to allow the user to control the printing of notes and commands. They are "Print Commands" and "Print Notes". If "Print Commands" is not checked then commands will not be printed in a music log regardless of an individual command's print option. If "Print Notes" is not checked then notes will not be printed in a music log regardless of an individual note's print option.
The VCS dira! interface has been updated to store the take ID in a Powergold custom field called TakeID. Because of this the user must create the TakeID custom field in Powergold before songs can be retrieved from dira!.
The Music Library J Jump feature has been totally redesigned and it is now a very powerful and highly useful tool. It is now called "Jump/Select Based On Current Sort Column". It now offers advanced search criteria as well as live (as you type) results displayed. It now allows the user to choose one or more results matching the criteria specified and also indicates how many songs actually match each matching value. You can choose 1 matching value or multi-select as many matching values as needed. Once matching values are selected you can:
1. Jump to first: This option will deselect any currently
selected songs in the Music Library and then select the
first song matching your match value(s).
2. Jump & Keep selections: This option is the same as
option 1, however, it does not clear existing selections.
So any selections are simply added to.
3. Select all matching songs: This option will deselect
any currently selected songs in the Music Library and then
select the all songs matching your match value(s).
4. Select & keep selections: This option is the same as
option 3, however, it does not clear existing selections.
So any selections are simply added to.
Version 8.13.000.0000
Updated the Automation section headers and footers so that multiple tags are supported. For example, in the past only one DAY tag was processed. Now you can have as many tags as you need.
The Automation setup option for filename extension now supports the use of wildcards. Now you can have the first hour output in a file be the extension. For example, if the automation file has hours 1am - 3pm then the file extension would be .01. This is be represented by <hh> or <HH> (not case sensitive) in the file extension setup.
The VCS dira! automation system interface has been updated to support an alternate method of transferring scheduling information to dira!. By default Powergold maps each hour to a new dira! "part". That means there will be 1 "part" for each hour you choose to output. This method is easier to set up but is not as flexible. Therefore, if you check the option in Powergold called "Use Show Start Commands" then a different method is used to create the "parts". In order to accommodate show starts past minute 00 of any hour a special type of automation command is used. This new type of command is called a show start command. The name of a show start command must start with "DIRA_SHOW_START:" minus the quotes. Any text the user wishes can follow to help identify the command. The command description (note that command name and command description are 2 separate fields) must contain the minutes and seconds past the hour for the show start. More information on this feature can be found in the interface documentation.
The VCS dira! automation system interface now supports the use of an artist translation table. If used, this new feature allows your artists in Powergold to be spelled differently from what they are in dira!. For example, you can use the artist translation table to allow your artists in Powergold to be of the format "last name, first name" and the format in dira! to be "first name last name". This is possible because the artist translation table maps the dira! artist to a Powergold artist. Without this feature the artists in Powergold would be forced to match the spelling in dira!.
The active music log template is now always visible on the Print Reports screen. You no longer have to enter setup just to see what the active template is.
Now each Powergold user has their own active music log template setting. This allows one user to have TemplateA active and another user to have TemplateB active.
In a prior version a new feature was added to the Replace/Suggest/Insert screen in the Scheduler. This new feature is called the All Categories node and displays the songs from all categories. But when doing an insert, or replacing a note or command, this caused a delay while that node was populated. This has now been resolved and performing those actions no longer causes the delay.
The VCS dira! automation system interface now reads the order of the artists when it is getting song information from dira!. This order information is used when building the Artist Display Text field so the artists are listed in the proper order.
Fixed a bug in the Schedule History window that would cause some of the history grids to appear locked up and not scroll sometimes.
Fixed a bug when printing either the peak date field or entry date field in a music log when the value of that field is blank.
Updated the VCS dira! automation system interface so that if while on the send schedule screen and you press the "Show All Dates" button to show all scheduled dates, then the currently loaded schedule date gets automatically selected after it appears.
A new custom spin report has been added in the Music Library (located in the Tools menu). This new report allows you to create a custom spin report for any songs you have selected in the Music Library. This allows you to create a spin report based on many factors including properties, filters, etc. The report automatically includes any fields (columns) that are in the active Music Library display. The report can be output to file in either fixed width or tab delimited format. The report can be sorted by number of spins (descending) or can be sorted in the order the songs currently appear in the Music Library. You can choose any date range to include in the report and you can choose any hours to include (either hour range or hour blocks).
The scheduler history window, Artist Sep tab has been updated. By default a primary artist is now automatically selected. It now sorts the artists in the artist combo box so that all Primary artists are listed first and by default the first primary artist is selected. Also Primary artists are in bold print and secondary (non-primary) artists are in italic print.
The coding analysis tab in the Analysis section has been enhanced. You can now enter a numeric value in the title of a folder, property, or song list. If values are present and valid they are used in coding analysis to give an average value calculation. Mood also supports this calculation. To store a value include the value in parenthesis at the end of the name of the property, song list, or folder (mood has it built in automatically).
For example: Tempo: Fast (3)
Tempo: Medium (2)
In this case Fast has a value of 3 and Medium has a value of 2. If the value is not valid (not a number) then an average will not be calculated. Also, if any item is missing a value it will not calculate an average for that group. This new feature can be used for many different purposes. For example, you can use this to determine the average Tempo value over a period of days and hours.
Version 8.12.001.0000
Added a new custom output for the Omnibus automation system.
Modified the custom Dalet XML output according to the new specification.
Now only Powergold Administrators can perform the dira! Get All Takes routine.
Added shortcuts to the scheduler functions "Edit Previous Day" and "Edit Next Day". The shortcuts are Ctrl+< and Ctrl+> respectively.
When reconciling scheduling data with dira! the user is now presented with the dira! store Alias name instead of the host ID integer.
Version 8.12.000.0000
Added 2 fields to the automation setup: Mood and Date Added.
Modified automation output to correctly output the text of a Quick Note rather than the Quick Note identifier.
Added an "All Categories" item to the list of categories in Schedule Replace. This allows a user to browse all songs in all categories.
Schedule Snapshots can now be used as a feature to allow sharing of history between 2 (or more) databases quickly and easily (importing and exporting history). This has many implications. You can use this feature to save a schedule snapshot from DatabaseA and transfer the history to DatabaseB very quickly. All possible history events are supported (including songs, non-music events, all command types, notes, quick notes, and traffic). Snapshots can also be used to save a snapshot of a schedule at any point in time and that snapshot can be used to restore a schedule (or individual hours) back to that point at any time. For example, a user can create a snapshot before editing a log and can restore any hour in that snapshot if needed later. Snapshots can be imported into the same database that created them or into another database. However, if a song, for example, was in the source database but not in the target database it cannot be imported. Any time an event is missing in the target database a descriptive quick note is entered into the schedule at that exact position so the user knows exactly what was not imported. This is different from History Exchange which carries all details necessary to add items that are not in the target database. But History Exchange is much larger, slower, and has a greater impact on the target database. When databases have the same library then sharing snapshots is the way to go. In upcoming versions you will see further usage of snapshots including advanced undo behavior and more. You can access Schedule Snapshot functionality in the Tools menu in the Scheduler. Schedule Snapshot has its own setup screen where you specify the link field to use when creating a snapshot file (this is totally independent of the reconcile setup screen link field). And when importing a Schedule Snapshot the import uses the link field setting embedded in the snapshot file (which is the link field that was used to create the file). The snapshot import protects itself from duplicate link field values. Any snapshot files you created with prior versions are not compatible. You will need to create new snapshot files if you plan to import them.
Fixed a bug where if you opened the Schedule History window on a note, command, or unscheduled position after closing it on a song the history of the last song was displayed.
Made some of the XML exports remember the last file path used.
Updated the Genesys automation output setup so that any setup with the keyword #Genesys# in the name will use the special Genesys output behavior (of course, the original Genesys output uses the behavior as well). This allows multiple setups for Genesys output.
Fixed a problem with the "Switch Artist "Last Name, First Name" to "First Name Last Name" option in Music Log Printing when there were multiple artists separated by a / character.
The Programme Builder Schedule Output interface now allows multiple dates to be selected.
A confirmation has been added when a user choose to unschedule a position in the scheduler.
Fixed a problem with the "NexGen with Track" reconcile that caused it to be unable to reconcile.
A new option has been added to include unscheduled positions when printing a music log.
A new option has been added to the Replace with Same Artist (Artist Separation List), Replace with Artist Above (Artist Separation List), and Replace with Artist Below (Artist Separation List). This new option allows the user to choose the matching logic. The user can choose to display songs that match the selected artist (this is the default), or songs that have all the artists in the list (AND logic), or songs that have any of the artists in the list (OR logic).
A new feature has been added to the Artist History (Artist Sep) tab on the Schedule History H window. This new option allows the user to choose the matching logic. The user can choose to display history for songs that match the selected artist (this is the default), or songs that have all the artists in the list (AND logic), or songs that have any of the artists in the list (OR logic).
The Text File Import option "Add new songs only" has been renamed to "Add all songs in file" to better reflect its functionality and reduce confusion.
In the past a user could only use the Reconcile feature if he/she was the only user logged into the database. This restriction has been removed.
Version 8.11.000.0000
Added more functionality to the VCS dira! automation system interface and modified existing behavior where appropriate. VCS dira! store strings are now represented via aliases.
Added more reporting to the VCS dira! automation system interface.
The VCS dira! automation system interface now outputs conditional song and artist notes in the scheduling information when sent to dira!.
Fixed a bug where in rare cases a backup could skip an XML configuration file or a rebuild could clear a configuration.
Added a new option to the schedule reconcile feature. Powergold can now optionally insert a quick note at the end of each hour for each song dropped as a result of the reconcile.
Added a new automation system format for Genesys.
Fixed a bug in the Auto Update feature where some time formats were not being updated properly during a modify operation. This bug did not affect most users.
Added a new Property History tab to the History window in the scheduler editor.
Added a new Title History tab to the History window in the schedule editor.
Added 4 new schedule replace windows. They are Replace by Property, Replace with Same Property, Replace with Above Property, and Replace with Below Property. These new replaces are very useful (especially for those who like to theme schedule).
Added a new schedule reconcile for the DRS2006 automation system.
Added a new schedule reconcile format called "NexGen with Track".
The "SkipHTMLHelpCloseout" install-level special code has been added as a database-level special code as well. This is a feature only needed by a handful of clients.
Added more special codes to enable customer specific outputs (such as XML music outputs).
Added a new mass changer in the Music Library to add related artists to the artist separation list of selected songs. Logically only primary artists' related artists are considered and any related artists added to the separation list are added as secondary.
Added a new mass changer in the Music Library to add the value(s) in a custom field to the selected songs' artist separation list. Primary or Secondary artist assignments are supported as is the use of an optional delimiter if the custom field contains multiple artists.
Version 8.10.002.0000
Made some changes to the existing VCS dira! automation interface and also added new functionality. The new method for detecting songs deleted in dira! is now fully supported.
Updated some of the database-level special codes.
Added the Mediatouch schedule reconcile.
The "Dalet (Map1)" reconcile now detects whether headers and footers are being used in the reconcile file and handles either situation correctly.
Added a new song copy feature under the Tools menu in Music Library. This allows you to quickly and easily create a copy of a song with the same or even a different title.
Version 8.10.001.0000
Added database-level and install-level special code support. This allows customer support to provide special codes to a client to enable special behavior either at the database-level or the individual Powergold install-level. For example, codes can be provided to enable customer specific features or behavior.
Fixed a bug with the artist search function that is used in some areas. It was not searching properly sometimes because it was case sensitive when it should not have been.
Powergold is now fully permission controlled. In prior versions only the primary areas of Powergold had real permission control. Most other areas were either not permission controllable or were very limited in their permission controls. Now all areas now controllable per user. Permission values include ALLOW, DENY, and some offer READ-ONLY permission where appropriate. As a result of these upgrades the Powergold Administrator should review all their user permissions settings.
Many areas were only accessible to Powergold Administrators in the past. These restrictions have been removed and all permissions are now controlled individually per user. As a result of these upgrades the Powergold Administrator should review all their user permissions settings.
Updated the Powergold History Merge format in the Automation section. This does not affect the way the merge works. It just simplifies the format listed in automation and reflects support for the new Map1 length.
It is now possible to pass a command line parameter to Powergold to ensure certain paths are always available to your users on the logon screen in the Recent Data Folders box. The parameter can contain any number of paths that are required. The format of the parameter is as follows (2 sample paths are provided): paths="c:\PG Databases\Database1, c:\PG Databases\Database2"
Powergold now supports a Map1 length up to 40 characters. This was necessary to support the use of a GUID as the Map1 number.
Fixed a bug with Analysis that could occur in some databases when editing Folder Kicks within Analysis and then hitting refresh.
Added support in the Automation setup for custom file name rendering. This allows the use of a client-specified formula to calculate the name of the files output by Powergold automation. If you require the use of this feature contact Powergold support for more information.
VCS dira! automation system compatibility and communication has been added and is implemented via an automated API. Communication via files is not necessary but is still supported via XML files when needed. Powergold can automatically import songs from dira!, automatically send song updates to dira, automatically send scheduling data to dira! (including notes and commands), automatically receive reconcile data from dira!, and can automatically play music tracks via the dira! player for preview purposes.
A new button called "Sync Database" has been added to the main toolbar. This button and its associated drop-down menu contain all the database synchronization functions to which a user might need quick access (both for existing synchronization functions and upcoming features planned).
Improved the note performance in the scheduler by changing the way notes are managed internally in the schedule editor.
Added a new feature called Quick Notes. Quick Notes allow the user to insert a note on the fly in a schedule. Quick Notes can be added very quickly and do not require a schedule refresh. They also do not appear in the standard notes editor. This means you can now add a free text note anywhere in a schedule and have it show up in your printed log as well. But these notes will not clutter your standard note database and will not appear in the clock editor, schedule replace, etc. Think of Quick Notes as a way to add a one-time free text note to a log quickly and easily (for notes to the DJ, one-time automation macros, etc). The way each Quick Note will appear in a printed log is completely customizable per each Quick Note. Quick Notes are available in the Scheduler Insert menu or via the SHIFT+Q keyboard shortcut. Updated the user interface and captions in some areas.
Expanded our import facilities to add more flexibility when importing from other music scheduling systems.
Reconcile reporting is now greatly expanded when a user has set a path for reconcile reporting. In the past the reporting was only 1 report per date. So if a date was reconciled multiple times the report was overwritten each time. Plus the information in the report was somewhat limited and was difficult to understand. Now the reconcile creates a report for each hour for each date that is reconciled. Plus the new reports contain much more information including a record of the entire hour both before and after the reconcile. This new reporting is the default when a reconcile report path is specified. However, it is possible use the older reporting format if a user still requires this. Users should be aware, however, that the new reporting method will be activated by default and if the old method is still required they will need to turn off the new reporting.
Fixed a bug when using the procedure to reorder folders and packets. In some cases the orders were not recalculated or were not ordered correctly forcing the user to run the procedure again.
Fixed a bug when creating multiple dates in automation when using a custom file mask. You could get a incorrect message indicating the disk is full or write protected.
Added a new scheduler feature to allow the user to save a snapshot of the current schedule to file at any time.
Fixed a minor problem in the schedule reconcile window where the hour list was not cleared if initially the reconcile was cancelled and re-run without closing.
Fixed the occurrence of a license expiration notice that could appear at midnight under some circumstances when the license was not really expiring.
Version 8.09.001.0000
Added the RAM-COMM traffic merge.
Updated various documentation, captions, and hints.
Shuffle and Spread in Music Library now informs the user that they can only be used when on a Folder or a Packet when the user attempts to use them when not on a Folder or a Packet.
Added 2 new automation presets for the DJin automation system.
Version 8.09.000.0000
The methods by which the Music Library saves user changes to folder assignments has been completely redesigned. It now operates in coordination with the Scheduler to manage folder orders. The user interface itself has not changed and no change has been made that will affect any scheduling logic or user folder assignments whatsoever. What has changed are the internal methods Powergold uses to save/manage this data. The result is a dramatic improvement in the speed of Music Library saves (as well as refreshes after changes have been made, and many other operations). The Scheduler saves have been improved as well but to a lesser degree as they were already much faster than the Music Library. The larger a database the more improvement will be noticed. For example, users in a large database being accessed over a network by multiple users will enjoy dramatic speed increases and much more efficient workflow (a save that used to take minutes after moving some songs from one folder to another is now performed in a few seconds)!
The new Music Library save method now automatically detects when it must perform optimization/maintenance on folder assignments and ordering. When this is detected the user is notified as Powergold automatically performs the necessary changes. This process will force the save to be slower while the optimization/maintenance occurs. Depending on the database and network usage this process could be fast or relatively slow. However, it will never take longer than the old Music Library saves and will be infrequent. Depending on usage some databases will never have to optimize while other databases may need to be optimized occasionally. But the process is completely automatic.
Updated the BP&R Research import/export routines to be compatible with the new field width specifications.
Fixed a bug in the BP&R Research import/export when dealing with the 10 score format.
Fixed a bug in the BP&R Research import that could cause songs to not match and consequently not import.
For some time now you have been able to set the visibility of different line items (music, non-music, notes, commands) in the scheduler in the schedule display editor. In version 8.08.000.0000 those hide settings became per-user settings. Since that point the old interface for those settings was not needed and did not function. That interface has now been removed (the old, now removed, interface was located under Edit | Settings | Scheduling).
For certain types of moves/copies in the Music Library the names of the Category/Folders in the popup menu would sometimes have unnecessary spaces between the category name and the folder name. This has been fixed.
Fixed a bug in the Music Library when dragging a song(s) into a packet. Sometimes the drag would not be allowed when it should have been.
Fixed a bug in the Scheduler when using the Finish Schedule option but no categories/folders were chosen. In that circumstance it would finish the schedule for all categories/folders. Now it correctly prompts the user to select at least one folder to continue. Fixed a similar bug when finishing a schedule when no hours were selected.
Fixed a bug in the automation section. In setup when changing from one custom delimiter to another the change would not register in output until the automation editor was closed and then reopened.
Added a user confirmation prompt to the Remove Song(s) From Folder (shortcut key R) option in the Music Library to prevent accidental folder unassignment.
Added a second user confirmation prompt to the option to delete a song from the database in the Music Library (so there are now 2 prompts). This second prompt pops up if the user chooses to delete a song from the library to allow the user one more chance to cancel the permanent deletion of a song and all its history.
Version 8.08.004.0000
Modified the automation output for Scott Studios if traffic items are being delivered. Now the value that was delivered in the artist column is delivered in the Hard Disk Location column if it exists. This is because in this case the traffic command Type field is storing the hard disk location.
Corrected traffic behavior with automation output where it was prompting for a traffic file for output combinations that did not need to prompt for the traffic file.
Added some new advanced support options to allow customer support to more quickly help users that need custom operations on fields that were previously restricted from the mass changers.
Change the shortcut to mark a scheduled position as modified/unmodified to Alt+M.
Fixed a bug with the BP&R research import/export routines. Also it now uses a different set of database drivers for the import/export files for better compatibility. Also the default database settings can be overridden and a new totally user customizable database connection can be substituted.
Version 8.08.003.0000
Improved the way Powergold handles database locking when Powergold is performing an automatic backup. Also, Powergold now handles user logoff better during an automatic backup.
Made some minor changes to some captions.
Fixed a bug with some of the Powergold imports when importing/converting from another music scheduling software system into a Powergold database that is accessed via the network.
Fixed a bug when renewing a license from within Powergold. In this case when you would close Powergold you could get an error message and could not close Powergold.
Version 8.08.002.0000
Updated the tools to import from other music schedulers and a completely new import has been added to the list of schedulers we can now import. This makes it easier than ever to convert other music scheduling system data to Powergold.
Updated the CCADS Song import. It now verifies song durations and also properly calculates Category/Folder durations after importing automatically.
Added new keyboard shortcuts for the following features in the Scheduler and also in the Music Library: Category History, Folder History, and Packet History.
Added a new keyboard shortcut for the Mark/Unmark as Modified feature in the Scheduler.
The Text Import has been updated and now has an option to not clear existing song notes from a song when updating that song with new song notes in the imported text file.
Version 8.08.001.0000
Added a new interface to import CCADS Song Information. The import is located in the Music Library under the XML menu.
In version 8.08.000.0000 if you restored a backup from version 7 you would get a message indicating there was an error clearing user flags. This was a harmless message but was annoying. This has been fixed.
The Song Information screen has been updated and made larger. The Song Notes tab has been updated to take advantage of the extra space. The Future Moves tab has also been updated to take advantage of the extra space and is now much easier to read and use.
Any place where there was a category tree (Music Library, when creating a new folder, etc) if you clicked on a category node you had to click on the first part of the text to select the node. This would also cause some confusion when creating a new folder or packet. This has been fixed.
Version 8.08.000.0000
The F12 logon has been completely redone and all previous bugs are now eliminated. Previously it was called "Select Another Database". It is now simply called "Logon" and is available on the main toolbar as well as in the Database menu item. "Logon" can, of course, be used to logon to any Powergold database but is also useful when you are already in a database and need to restore a database, perform Repair & Maintenance Routines, etc.
Since F12 Logon has been redone there is no longer a need for anyone to ever disallow its use. Therefore, Powergold no longer will disallow F12 Logon even if the option to disable F12 logon is enabled in Powergold Centralized Options.
The GEMA/GVL Report has been updated to meet current specifications.
Further enhanced the tools to import from other music schedulers and a completely new import has been added to the list of schedulers we can now import.
Added an XML toolbar button in the Scheduler and Music Library. This is where all new XML interfaces have been added and is where all future XML interfaces will be placed.
Added an XML interface for the D.A.V.I.D. automation system to the Scheduler XML menu.
Added an XML interface for Jutel RadioMan to the Scheduler XML menu.
All Dira interfaces have been added to the XML menus in the Scheduler and Music Library.
The Dira interfaces are now always available. If direct communication with Dira is not possible then Powergold can automatically interface via XML files.
Added the Radioware32 Traffic interface.
Added an option to the Title Editor to automatically remove quotes.
Added the OSi Traffic interface.
Powergold now fully tracks which users are currently logged in to each database. This information is visible in the Powergold Users screen which is available both within Powergold and on the Powergold logon screen. This information is useful for many reasons including checking who is logged in, preventing users from using the same username, etc.
The Powergold Users screen has been completely redone and now indicates which users are currently active (logged in) to a database. It is also now available on the Powergold Logon screen. Also it is now smart about who is viewing it and from where it was opened. This smart behavior allows it to display appropriate information given the user's permission level, etc.
A user can now no longer be deleted if that user is active in the database.
Added schedule reconciling for the Radiohost system.
In the Scheduler you have always been able to hide notes, commands, and/or music items in the display. Now those hide settings are stored per user so that each user can have their own settings without affecting other users.
History Merge has been updated. Now it transfers Category and Folder information. This is important because in the event that a song is in more than one folder Powergold used to have to prompt the user for the correct folder to use while merging. Now Powergold can automatically determine what folder to use without prompting the user.
In prior versions of Powergold v8 when you would create a new database and access it the first time you would get an upgrade notice nag screen. That screen no longer appears when you create a new database.
In the automation setup you can now specify a custom mask for the filename. In the past, for example, you could not specify a default filename in the format of mm-dd-yy. Now you can specify mm-dd-yy or any other valid format. You should contact Powergold Support for help setting up a custom mask.
When Powergold detects a share change it must shut down to apply the change. In the past you had to manually re-launch Powergold. Now this is automatic.
The Language Translations have been removed from Powergold for the time being. We originally decided to make the translations available as we completed them. Now the translations will not be visible until they are complete.
The main toolbar and menu have been updated. Several things have been updated and some have been moved/removed. Print Reports has been renamed to just Reports.
Implemented several important low level upgrades to assist with future upgrades that are scheduled for Powergold in the near future and long term.
Added a new interface to allow exporting and importing of data with BP&R Research. This new interface is located in the Music Library under the Tools menu.
Version 8.07.000.0000
Updated the position flip behavior in the Scheduler and restored the ability to cancel a flip. You can press the Flip button (or F on the keyboard) to start a flip. To commit the flip you can click on the flip position or press ENTER on the keyboard. To cancel a flip press F on the keyboard or click the Flip button again.
Now the Automatic Update Batch/Move method requires you to enter a file extension. An extension is required for this mode to work so it does not let you continue without specifying the file extension.
Added the Category History Report. This report displays the actual play history for the chosen category for any date range. This report can be called from the Schedule Editor, Music Library, and the Category Editor.
Add the Folder History Report. This report displays the actual play history for the chosen folder for any date range. This report can be called from the Schedule Editor, Music Library, and the Folder editor.
Added the Packet History Report. This report displays the actual play history for the chosen packet for any date range. This report can be called from the Schedule Editor, Music Library, and the Packet Editor.
Updated all history grids and their report behavior. Previously it did not always handle columns with large values very well. Now the report scales better and if a number must be clipped for display it indicates as such.
Updated the History button in the Schedule Editor and the Music Library to allow opening of any of the following histories: Song History, Category History, Folder History, Packet History. Also, history buttons were added to the Category, Folder, and Packet editors.
Re-enabled the Automatic Update FTP mode. This mode has been previously disabled in version 8 but is now fully updated and enabled with new, fully compatible, FTP capability.
The Powergold System Settings editor user interface has been updated and some new items have been added.
Two new options have been added to allow more flexibility and control when you have non-music events (songs tagged as non-music) scheduled inside of artist blocks.
1. Ignore non-music events in artist blocks - If this option is enabled then a non-music event within an artist block will not be subject to the rules of artist blocks and its artists will not participate in or be subject to the block decisions.
2. Do not schedule non-music events in artist blocks during the artist block pass - If this option is enabled then non-music events in an artist block will not be scheduled during the artist block pass. Rather they will be scheduled during the normal scheduling pass that is done after all artist block passes.
Both of these options can be set in the Scheduling tab in the System Settings.
Added Packet Percent Back to both the Music Library and Schedule Editor displays.
Modified Artist Block seeding (Artist Blocks with a seed artist specified). Now the seed artist match must be a primary artist.
When Powergold is installed for the first time and the sample database is available Powergold will default to the sample database on the logon screen. Previously Powergold would just notify the user that they must choose a valid database directory and the user had to path to the sample database (or other database).
The interface to set up Powergold regular backups has been updated. Also, the option to span multiple disks and clear the disks prior to backup now only applies to the A: drive.
Updated the Digital Audio Player. It now correctly handles playing of multiple selections of songs in the Music Library and Scheduler. Also, any selections of multiple songs are stored internally per user.
Added a traffic merge for the VI - Video International traffic system.
Version 8.06.000.0000
Added the ability to directly communicate with the VCS dira! automation system for updating songs, updating schedules, and reconciling schedules. The communication is direct so no text files (or any files) are required.
Further updated the Powergold Centralized Options (PCO) feature and added a way to bypass PCO when a user needs to restore a database that is governed by PCO to a remote location. This is useful, for example, for support purposes or for consultants since they would not need/want to be restricted by PCO. Even if a backup is returned to the original location the PCO options remain intact and operational.
Now when you flip a position in the scheduler it will highlight the first flip position so that you can remember what position you are flipping while scrolling.
Improved the AudioVault reconcile. It is now more intelligent and handles the different status codes better. Also, there was a bug with the AudioVault reconcile that would cause some positions to not calculate their durations correctly which could affect those positions' reconcile status.
Updated the backup utility. You can now specify 2 locations to copy automatic backups after they are created (you could only specify 1 copy location previously). The copy feature copies automatic backups as well as conversion backups and repair backups. Also, the new backup copier displays its status while copying so the user knows when the backup is occurring and when the copying is occurring.
Updated the Automatic Update user interface.
Added an important new mode to the Automatic Update feature. The new mode is called the Batch/Move method. Previously the Automatic Update required that your files be named a very specific way (by date, sequentially adding positions over time). And it handled the files by tracking positions within those files. The original 2 modes still operate in the same manner and users that are already using Automatic Update will not need to change anything. The new mode allows users that require more flexibility and/or less structure a different method of handling the updates. Using the Batch/Move method files (with a user-defined extension and format) can be accessed by Powergold automatically to provide song updates (adds, modifies, or deletes). And once a file is processed it is moved to a user specified location. This new mode will prove to have many different uses. One example is automatically importing music information from the Music Promotion Network.
Added a new report to the Music Library called Category/Folder Play History By Song Report. This new report can be output in several different formats to accommodate different needs.
Fixed a bug where when opening the daypart assign screen a daypart could be added to a song when it was not intended.
Fixed a bug in the Command Scheduler when inserting commands. Under some circumstances if you opened the Insert Command screen multiple times the commands would not appear until you closed and then re-opened the Command Scheduler.
Fixed various minor user interface issues.
Version 8.05.002.0003
Revision release. Not a required update. All changes in the version will be officially commented in the next upgrade to version 8.05.003.0000. This revision release was needed prior to 8.05.003.0000 for a few specific Powergold users.
Version 8.05.002.0000
Further enhanced the Powergold Centralized Options feature for greater control and added the ability to define default recent data folders on the logon screen in a single central location.
Version 8.05.001.0000
Added the ability for some features of Powergold (such as logon options) to be controlled from a central location. Users that need this ability need to obtain the centralized option manager from Powergold support.
Version 8.05.000.0000
Powergold now offers customizable category colors. The colors available for category colors have increased from 16 to essentially unlimited.
The category tree in the Music Library has been updated and is now completely user customizable. A user can right click on the tree and choose to customize the look of each of the levels of the tree (category, folder, and packet). It also now supports the new unlimited category colors (as does everywhere else) and has smarter highlighting when dragging items.
A new method to update the Powergold database has been implemented that offers easier upgrades and more flexibility.
A new method of version control and compatibility assurance has been implemented. Powergold now automatically handles incompatible database versions and does not let the user access a database if it is not a compatible version.
Music exchange, history exchange, and format exchange are now version aware and will not allow the importing of a file that contains incompatible data features due to different versions of Powergold.
Version 8.04.001.0000
Updated the Automation Output so that if a Song Delimiter is specified it is output for any voice tracks as well.
The user interface to print music logs has been upgraded. A new feature for memorizing the hours to print for each weekday has been added. The memorized hours are per-user so each user can have his/her own settings.
Some minor updates to the sample database were made.
Improved the property max-in-a-row rule to skip unscheduled non-music categories. This results is a significantly lower number of hindsight violations.
Fixed a bug when printing a music log to file in Print Reports. If the first item of an hour was a non-music event and the option to print non-music events was not activated then the header for the hour was not output.
Fixed a problem that would sometimes cause an error message to appear after Powergold was closed. The message was harmless and would only appear occasionally for some users in certain circumstances.
Version 8.04.000.0000
Powergold previously required the user to have write permissions to the root drive (usually c:\). Powergold no longer requires this and, in fact, no longer writes any files in that location.
Fixed a bug in the text import. When the runtime was imported with the format h:mm:ss it would not import correctly.
Fixed a bug with the Select By Any Field option in the Music Library. In some cases the option was not available and an error message would appear.
Updated the Music Exchange and History Exchange. When importing using the option to force add all songs to a specific category/folder duplicate Map1 numbers could be imported. This is now prevented and any songs that are duplicate Map1 numbers are ignored during the exchange and logged to file.
The Music Exchange used to create a log file called song_ex_report.txt. This has been renamed to music_ex_report.txt.
The help has been further updated. Many of the missing F1 links have been reconnected.
The Help menu item Contents & Index now works properly. The Help menu has been updated and some unimportant items have been removed to simplify the menu.
Fixed some issues of control sizes being too small for some translations of some of the control captions.
Version 8.03.001.0000
Updated the Repair and Maintenance utility. Some items were removed to simplify the user interface since those items were no longer necessary because they are covered by the Advanced Repair. Also, the backup notification was added to several more of the features.
A new maintenance feature was added to Repair and Maintenance utility to allow the user to choose any custom song field to supply artist names to generate the artist separation list for each song. This is especially handy after an import.
Updated the Finland Teosto/Gramex report. It now takes unscheduled position time into account. It now ignores any non-music events or categories (of course it still accounts for their durations).
Version 8.03.000.0000
Fixed a bug with the Mass Change Song Field when the field is mood. Now you can enter 0 when you want to assign no mood. Also, you can no longer enter an invalid value.
Updated the imports so that conversions are more complete.
Added the new Finland Teosto/Gramex Report to the international reports section.
Added a new option to manually type in the database path on the logon screen instead of browsing for it. When using this option care must be taken to enter the path to the database exactly the same as all other users.
Fixed a bug in the imports that could allow invalid names to be imported for some items that would cause problems. The imports now strip any illegal characters to make sure the names are valid.
The Song Exchange feature has been renamed to Music Exchange and it now uses a .mex file extension. This should make it easier for the exchange files to pass through company firewalls and filters.
Restoring a backup is only allowed when opening the backup utility from the initial logon screen. But there was a bug that would allow a restore from within Powergold under certain circumstances. This has been fixed.
Fixed several issues with the automation output when using the option to put song and artist notes on separate lines. Also added new functionality to this to improve the behavior. A new option was added to allow a note to wrap to a new line if it is longer than the specified maximum length.
When upgrading from a version prior to version 8 you would get a message incorrectly telling you the prior version was version 8. This has been fixed.
In the automation output section, the date selection and hour selection screens have been combined into a single screen. This is much more convenient.
Added some new translations and updated some of the existing ones.
Fixed a nasty bug with filters. When using some filters in the Music Library or in Print Reports you would get at least one error message and it could cause Powergold to freeze. This is now resolved. Also, the filter editor has been enhanced with better logic to assist in more meaningful filter criteria construction.
In the past when restoring or repairing a database Powergold would not be able to complete the action if the rebuild temporary directory still existed. Powergold now detects this condition automatically and alerts you.
A brand new Repair and Maintenance utility has been added to Powergold. The new utility has some of the tools available in the past. But many new tools and enhancements have been added including some that automatically solve problems that had to be manually handled by Powergold Support in the past. A new advanced technical support option has been added to assist when technical support is required by the Powergold Support team. The ability (and requirement) to create a backup before performing many repair tasks has been added. A new repair option has been added to validate/repair any broken category, folder, packet, or daypart assignments. A new automatic Advanced Repair has been added that can solve most problems automatically. Also a new tool has been added to assist in determining if a user has the proper permissions (such as networking permissions) to run Powergold and access the database. And now all Repair and Maintenance actions are logged to file.
Since the new Repair and Maintenance utility can create backups a purge option has been added to make it easy to purge any older backups to save disk space.
Version 8.02.000.0000
Powergold Chaining Commands have been improved and renamed to Directive Commands. Directive Commands can serve as chain commands or as a means for the user to store custom information in history and/or clocks to be used in the scheduler or passed to the automation system. They can also be used to instruct Powergold to behave in certain ways on a per position basis. For example, a Directive Command can be used to exclude a history position from the auto-editor.
Updated the Backup/Restore utility. Now it is smarter about when and where a backup can be created and restored. For example, no longer are you allowed to restore a backup into a directory that is not a Powergold database directory.
Updated the New Database tool. Among other improvements is built in intelligence that prevents a new database from being created in a location that should not be allowed. For example, you can no longer create a database directory inside of another Powergold database.
Fixed a bug with the tool that removes the BDE generated support files (located on the logon screen). Now you can no longer use this tool if the Logon screen was initiated from within Powergold (F12 logon).
Fixed several issues with automation outputs when the file type is space delimited and you have the option to force any song and artist notes to be on separate lines. Among the issues resolved is now the spaces that were left in place of the song and/or artist notes if there were none have been removed. The spaces are correct when the option to place song and artist notes on a separate lines is not checked. But the spaces should not be there if that option is in use. Another bug fixed when using that option is that notes that were shorter than the maximum length of the note in automation setup were not being padded to the full length.
Updated the Format Exchange to support features added in the initial release of v8 that were still not supported in the format exchange. The most notable additions are support for non-music categories and per-user Music Library and Scheduler displays. Now if you choose to import custom display information you are presented with a dialog that allows you to map any user/display combination from the source database to a user in the target database. This is useful for sharing displays among different databases or even within the same database (between different users).
Fixed a bug with Chain Commands (now called Directive Commands), Total Plays, and Exact Duration in the Scheduler. If you changed any Exact Duration or Directive Command values in a schedule and then ran the Auto-Editor prior to hitting refresh then the edits you just made would appear to revert after the auto-edit. The values did not revert. Rather, the display simply showed the prior values until a refresh took place. This has been corrected.
Fixed some bugs when forcing English to be used as the Powergold language when Windows is set to a different locale.
Updated the Time Period and Hour Rotation circulation rules. Now these rules are able to look forward as well as backward. This will greatly reduce hindsight violations as well as greatly assist those users who edit their dates after creating subsequent dates. While both forward and backward circulation rules are treated the same as far as violation reporting and counting they are clearly indicated as backward or forward in the live violation window to assist in editing.
Powergold Version 8 Initial Release
These notes are in order of release from the first beta to the final release. All are part of the new Powergold Version 8!
Version 8.00.001.0000 Beta
Added a new Performance Rights System report. This new report can be run at any time for any date range and does not require an auto-reconcile to be done. This one is optimized for multi-day creation and is extremely efficient. It is also multi-user safe so it does not require the user running the report to be the only user logged on.
New feature added to Scheduler to parse an entire schedule, or part of a schedule, and take any song positions that were scheduled as a Category/Folder other than the current Category/Folder and change them to the current Category/Folder. This will be of great help to users using the hour copier to bring in information from weeks past.
New reports called CD Title Report (with details) and CD Title Report (without details).
A new automated procedure has been added to the Powergold repair utility called "Validate History" that automatically fixes errors in the history and resolves any multi-user conflicts that can occasionally occur in a busy network environment (especially in locations where multiple users edit logs simultaneously over a large network).
Added the ability to print the Command Scheduler information to a file for the current day/hour or the entire current Command Schedule.
The Schedule Create screen has been re-written so that all the information for building a schedule is visible on the same screen. Plus a new custom calendar control has been added that indicates what days have already been scheduled. Also, the schedule create screen no longer allows the user to start scheduling if any date is selected that is already scheduled.
Rebuilt the Scheduler Pre-Schedule screen to improve functionality and coordinate with Schedule Create.
Rebuilt the Scheduler Finish Schedule screen to improve functionality and coordinate with Schedule Create.
Added options to Reconcile to skip reconciling for hours that are not scheduled (optional).
Added a new feature to the Music Library and Scheduler to calculate and report the actual average turnover (as opposed to the theoretical calculated in Analysis) of any individual song(s). Since the private Beta the remaining bugs in actual turnover have been fixed. (When opened you would get a message about failed to set calendar range.) Also, removed limit of 30 in actual turnover.
Re-worked the screen for printing Music Logs. The confusing Memorized Hours stuff is gone and has been replaced with a completely flexible method to choose the exact hours to print (contiguous or not). It now supports range or block printing.
A massive amount of modifications and improvements have been made to the database to improve efficiency. Plus, necessary support has been added to the Powergold database and executable to interface with the upcoming Powergold Enterprise. Further modifications of the database we implemented for future planned features so these features will not have to wait for a conversion version. (This means some of the features on the wish lists that do not make it in initial version 8 will be able to be implemented easier in future versions).
Updated major areas of Powergold to better handle when a network or hardware problem occurs.
In Clock, the counter now counts a flowlist as a song and does not count non-music positions.
The Percent Back Mass Changer and Daypart Mass Changer in the Music Library now work for all levels of the Category (or navigation) tree. This means you no longer have to be in a Folder to perform those mass changes. They even work when All Categories is the current level.
Added a traffic merge interface for Traffic 2000.
Added the new Scott Studios SKD automation interface.
Since prior private beta releases, fixed a bug in clock editor if insert a forced song with a long title it would cause the columns to autosize and lose the chain column off screen.
You can now mark a Category as non-music. This allows the Scheduler to handle those Categories more intelligently. For example, the Mood rule now ignores those Categories. The scheduler will treat a song as non-music if it is in a non-music Category or if it is flagged as non-music at the song level. Spin reports, etc, will only pay attention to the song level non-music flags for its reporting. Of course spin reports, etc, can exclude any category needed.
Modified the main toolbar so that some of the buttons have drop down menus attached to assist in more efficient navigation. Also, the Database menu which was previously located in the File menu is now a main menu item itself.
The installation method used for all prior versions of Powergold has been replaced. The new Powergold install uses the latest in Microsoft’s installation technology. This offers custom installation options as well as many install/uninstall benefits.
Music Library and Scheduler displays are now per user. So each user can have customized displays without affecting other users. Plus, each user now has his/her own active display. This also greatly benefits those users in a terminal environment.
Every Powergold screen has been updated to display properly when in an advanced graphics environment such as Windows XP. Plus, every Powergold screen now handles properly multi-display environments (no more windows popping up on the wrong monitor). Many screens have also been updated to take advantage of the new 800x600 minimum resolution requirement. Plus all windows now store applicable settings on a per-user basis.
Powergold now implements a new version numbering scheme of MAJOR.MINOR.BUILD.RELEASE. For example, the Powergold V8 final release is version number 8.00.002.0000. To see the full version you can right click on the version number on the logon screen and choose Show Full Version. The full version number is also visible on the About screen.
A new feature has been added to the Logon screen to automatically delete/clear the private directory, lck files, net files, etc. Changes have been made to the way these files are handled so problems involving these files in a multi-user environment should be reduced. But when a problem does occur the resolution of the problem is a simple click.
Powergold now has built-in safety checks to prevent multiple versions of Powergold that are not compatible from accessing a database. In the past if a company forgot to upgrade one user but upgraded all the other users it could cause problems.
Updated the Text Import feature to include Map1 matching. This opens up all sorts of possible uses for Text Import/Update/Delete.
Added support for chaining to Clocks, Scheduler, and Automation. Chaining commands can also be displayed in a Schedule.
Re-wrote major portions of the Music Library and Scheduler to improve speed. In some cases the Music Library and Scheduler saves/refreshes are up to 60% faster. Also, backups are smaller as a result of these optimizations.
Powergold security, licensing, and passwords have been updated and are more efficient and ready for future upgrades and improvements.
Powergold backups no longer use .zip extensions. Now they use the .pgb extension (pgb stands for PowerGold Backup). Of course, the old backup format is still supported if you need to restore an older backup (just open the “Files of Type” combo and choose Pre-Version 8 backups).
The Command Scheduler can now be automatically opened from a Schedule to the exact day/hour/position that is selected in the Schedule.
Added several new options to the Powergold Backup screen to make creating and restoring the different types of backups much easier. Plus an Email Backup feature was added to automatically email a backup.
If a user tries to renew a database that looks like it may be a sample database they are prompted and asked if they really want to proceed. This gives Powergold support a chance to prevent the licensing of sample data if that is not the intended result.
A new hour delete has been added to the Scheduler that works with multiple hours.
The Category and Folder deletes have been rewritten to be more solid and they now warn the user that any history positions involving the Category or Folder to be deleted will be deleted as well.
Added a new Property Analysis Report to the scheduler.
Powergold now requires a minimum resolution of 800x600. It will not even install or run at less than 800x600.
Packet search depth now defaults to a number of 1 (as opposed to a percent of 100).
Increased the maximum length of the Song field Filename to 150 characters. Also increased the maximum length of the Song field Hard Disk Location to 150 characters.
Increased the maximum length of the Map1 field to 40 characters to correctly interface with the upcoming Powergold Enterprise.
Modified the Auto-Update to be able to update the CD Name field.
Updated much of the graphics coding to better support scrolling and animations.
Added a new traffic merge interface for Smarts Broadcast.
Powergold no longer operates on Windows 95.
The logon screen has been updated. The “Browse For a Data Folder” button now opens to the current directory (previously it just opened to the top node of the navigation tree).
Powergold 2002 has been permanently renamed to Powergold. New icons are used. Powergold components have been updated to the most current version.
Powergold V8 is a data conversion version. The database is heavily modified from prior versions so once it is converted it cannot be converted back to a prior version. However, a backup of the prior version is created the first time you perform a conversion.
Powergold now delivers a brand new sample database (if the user chooses to install it).
Since the security is brand new, all existing databases will have to be re-licensed in version 8.
Now you can print in Analysis by clicking the print buttons available for each Analysis tab.
There were many areas in Powergold that were not printing to file correctly. These areas have been updated and are now working properly.
The email engine has been re-written to support all know mapi email interfaces including the newest Microsoft Outlook 2002 and 2003 (Beta and release) protocols.
Powergold begins the progressive internationalization of the application. Right now the main menu, toolbar, and logon screen are translated to Spanish and German. French translations are coming. With each successive version of Powergold more and more areas will be internationalized.
Fixed a bug with reporting dates in the Performance Rights Report that is run after an auto-reconcile.
Fixed a bug in the new multi-day Performance Rights System report that would cause it to not generate reports for some databases.
Since prior private beta versions, fixed a bug when re-licensing a v7 or prior database into a v8 database. Now that license will be successful.
Since prior private beta versions, fixed a couple of nasty bugs when opening a database that was previously licensed with version 7 or prior.
Fixed many different bugs throughout the program. The list is too exhaustive (and in some cases too technical) to document all here.
Redid many of the delete procedures throughout the program. Several elusive bugs have been fixed that would occasionally cause corruption in the history and music library.
Version 8.00.001.0001 Beta
Added the new HTML help system. The help is still being updated and topics are still being added and linked up. So look for frequent updates to the help.
Added more functionality to the new repair procedure Validate History.
Fixed 2 bugs with the German GEMA/GVL report.
Fixed several other miscellaneous issues.
Version 8.00.001.0002 Beta
Fixed a very elusive bug in the Clock editor. Under certain circumstances if you chose to highlight a category or folder in the circular clock and then chose not have highlight anything you would get an error message and Powergold would shut down.
Fixed a bug in the CD Title Report w/details and Title Report w/details. If the Title/Artist was long it would spill into other columns causing that data to not be visible.
Fixed a bug in the Command Scheduler. If you right clicked over the event box when no event was selected you would get an error message.
The Property Analysis report that was added to the scheduler in 8.00.000.0000 was not working. This report has been removed from the scheduler because a new, more flexible, analysis has been added (see below).
The Coding Analysis (located in Analysis) has been completely redone internally. The calculations on the Category/Folder tab were using Folder instances to base the math upon. The result was that the analysis, while mathematically valid, was not very useful and somewhat confusing. Now it is exactly as it should be for all types of coding analysis (Category/Folder, Mood, Song List, and Properties).
An important new tool has been added to the Coding Analysis (located in Analysis) called History Coding Analysis. This is the most useful coding analysis tool by far. Now you can analyze the coding (Category/Folder, Mood, Song Lists, and Properties) for any date range and hour combination in history. For example, before this tool existed all you could do was determine the percentage of your library that is of a certain property (such as Gender: Male). And even this was not that accurate until the modifications in this version (see the above entry). Now you can determine for any date and hour range the percentage of the aired positions that are of that property. The same holds true for Category/Folder, Mood, and Song Lists too. So you can at a glance see exactly how your format sounds and make adjustments as necessary.
Several other smaller bugs and display issues have been fixed as well.
Version 8.00.001.0003 Beta
The Passwords and Permissions editor has be moved to the Database menu and is now called Powergold Users. The user interface has also been updated.
The current Powergold user can no longer be deleted.
Fixed several nasty bugs in the Users and Passwords screen that could cause the wrong user to be deleted when a user is deleted.
Fixed a bug that would cause Scheduler or Music Library displays to break or become unavailable for some users if a User/Password was edited.
Restoring a backup can now only be performed when opening the Backup Utility from the initial logon screen. This solves several security issues and other issues when restoring data. Backing up can still be performed even when the Backup Utility is launched from within Powergold or the F12 logon screen.
Added a new optional custom page header when printing music logs. The new header is configured in the Music Log Designer.
Fixed a bug in the Music Library when you highlight multiple instances of the same song and copy them to a song list. The song would then be in the song list multiple times which should not occur. Since this bug has been present for some time the version 8 database conversion checks all song lists and fixes any duplicate occurrences.
